Top Gun in Just a Year!
Setting 77 world records in 2007 - the most ever set in a single year - has made Steve Wood a ‘Top Gun’ pilot in more ways than one.
Flying in formation, just like the Red Arrows, is something Steve does regularly, the smoke trail from his airplane, Spirit of Endeavour, adds to the fun as does the airplane’s registration N-600FY, which looks just like ‘GOOFY’
But it’s in setting aviation world records that Steve is Top Gun! Steve has set a massive total of 101 solo international FAI World Speed Records - 77 of these in a single year - a record in itself. With 101 World Records officially ratified Steve is:
Steve has also smashed a 56 year old record for the most FAI aeroplane world records set by a British pilot in a single year. The previous record of 27 records was set by T W Hayhow in 1952, flying an Auster Aiglet. Even the legendary Sheila Scott set only 23 world records in a single year back in 1967, so Steve’s 77 world records set in a single year beats this by a huge margin!
